25: Governance, Leadership, and Founder's Syndrome

What is governance? To what degree are leaders within a governing institution subject to its rules? We use this framework to discuss the unexpected announcement of RMS's re-appointment to the FSF board.

@fossandcrafts Thank you. I really liked it. It was super interesting and contains a real lesson about gouvernance in FLOSS projects, org and foundations.

@fossandcrafts This was very heartfelt, in-depth, insightful, educational and very well navigated. Thank you.

@fossandcrafts Thank you for creating this episode!

This is a really complicated topic: I have never had a discussion where I deleted as many messages instead of sending them as in this, because I worried about people raging against fragments of messages taken out of context (and even with the few messages I posted it still happened).

@fossandcrafts Thank you for this episode. Holding people you care about accountable when repeated call-ins don't work is hard.

@fossandcrafts Wow. THANK YOU for being the first anti-Stallman voice I've found that's actually willing to have a civil discussion and raise points beyond mere guilt by association and deliberate misinterpretation. Extremely informative...and while I don't necessarily find all of your evidence as concerning as you do, much of it certainly is worrying....and now I actually have sources and specific incidents for further research as well! So much more effective than that atrocious letter....

@fossandcrafts Also just FYI....seems like you may not have seen this yet:

2800 signatures on the anti-RMS letter; 4000 on the pro-RMS one right now. Largely that seems to come down to the fact that the examples cited seem to be opposition to statements of political opinions or opposition to people he has associated with rather than specific actions by RMS like those you mentioned. Discussion in FSF member forum is almost all along those lines too.

@fossandcrafts thank you! I really appreciated your thorough breakdown of the situation. I feel a litgle bit more learned on the news.

@fossandcrafts Finished listening to this today. I really appreciated the thoughtfulness of the discussion. Thank you!

@fossandcrafts Excellent episode. It made this situation way more clear to me. Thanks for your work !
