«Remember to look up at the stars, not down at your feet. Try to make sense of what you see and wonder about what makes the universe exist. Be curious. And however difficult life may seem, there is always something you can do and succeed at. It matters that you don't just give up»
Stephen Hawking was a great man. Not only did he advance our understanding of the universe greatly, he used his fame to fight for a better world: Against war, poverty and superstition, for humanity and the environment

This is a sobering and important read for all of us who care deeply about the future of democracy, free speech and power – that is: the future of the internet – and think that federation is the way to go to secure it.
He has some very compelling arguments for why it's not. At the same time his reassurance that it's not even needed doesn't seem very sound.

Please read and think carefully about this. https://signal.org/blog/the-ecosystem-is-moving/

After about 70 hours I finally got to the end of The Talos Principle. All three of them. Together with a friend. Great game, both the gameplay and the philosophy. Love games that makes you think, about more than just the puzzles in it. But the puzzles are amazing. Totally in awe of the people who managed to imagine them all and actually make them work. Would love to try it in VR, but would never do the ending in it. That shit is crazy! Also: Hurrah for Linux support!

People are talking about a new social network called #Vero. I took a look at their website and FAQ and couldn't find anything about federation. Sorry, then I'm not interested. Just like most of the people signing up now will in a couple of months. Federation is the only way for smaller social networks to compete with the network effect of the bigger

Was going to mention the FreedomBox to @bjornstark, saying that unfortunately it's been dead in the water for years. Just to make sure I didn't embarrass myself I checked them out one last time before pushing 'send'. Imagine my surprise seeing that they are actually really active now! What happened?
Some months ago I would've been really stoked! Now I'm a bit more reserved, after the shenanigans of Eben Moglen's Software Freedom Law Center against the @conservancy

Ok, seems like it was just the first boot that was slow. Restarting it has been fast enough almost every time. Still looks terrible, though.
