forteller - This sounds like Aaron Swartz all over again :(
A teenager in Canada who downloaded several thousand public freedom-of-information requests records has been raided by police and accused of "stealing" private information
If you haven't read any of them yet, then this is your lucky day! Go check it out right now! https://www.peppercarrot.com/
Man, I'm reeeeally ready for a new Pepper & Carrot strip by @davidrevoy right about now.
Hello fediverse! https://lib.reviews/ is a free/open/nonprofit alternative to proprietary review sites like #Goodreads, #Yelp, #IMDB.
It plugs into #opendata sources: #Wikidata, #OpenLibrary and #OpenStreetMap (OSM integration is very basic at this point). Still a long way to go but we have a small community and lots of reviews already. On GitHub at: https://github.com/eloquence/lib.reviews - IRC: #lib.reviews on irc.freenode.net - Matrix: https://matrix.to/#/#lib.reviews:matrix.org
What do you know about Martin Luther King Jr, except that he had a dream and fought for it?
It's 50 years since MLK was assassinated. In todays episode of my podcast Kurator I present two of his speeches, the famous one, and one other. You should really listen to both!
Please enjoy:

Also this:
Extremely interesting to read Martin Luther King's thoughts on capitalism, socialism, communism, and how to create a more just society in this letter to his future wife, Coretta Scott.
«Let us continue to hope, work, and pray that in the future we will live to see a warless world, a better distribution of wealth, and a brotherhood that transcends race or color. This is the gospel that I will preach to the world.»

Oh, yeah, and I also mentioned Mastodon and https://fediverse.party/
Hey, fediverse! Listen up. You'll like this, I promise.
Yesterday I was on Norwegian national radio, talking about how the "monopoly" of Facebook over the public discourse is dangerous and that politicians need to step in.
My sollution? Enforce federation!
That way the free market of social networks can work and the network effect will no longer be a "social DRM" locking people in.

I watched The Breadwinner (animated, 2017) yesterday, and must say that it was a real master piece!
A young girl in Kabul has to pretend to be a boy to be able to go out and provide for her family when her dad gets arrested. The inhumanity of theocratic rule is shown in a beautiful and deeply human story. Also: Female main characters.
Highly reccommended. #filmreview
So, I've been going without a job for the last 3 years. But I've done a lot of things which I feel adds value to society. That's the reason why I do them. Unfortunately they are not things that I can monetize. I've never asked for money for it, I don't really know how. But now I thought maybe there's a possibility here, if others also find value in my work. If not, I guess it's not much sense in doing it.
So yeah, that's the back story. Hoping for feedback. Thanks, all!
Guys. I've done the thing and set up my very own @Liberapay account. I'd love to hear what you think and get some feedback on it! I've never done something like this before, so any feedback is appreciated! https://liberapay.com/forteller/
Is anyone hosting a #PeerTube instance that contains only #CreativeCommons or #PublicDomain works?
I've been semi-serious thinking about committing to this. Free Culture, to me, seems to align with Free Software, and using products of the commons for the sake of preserving and distributing them feels worthwhile.
It'd be interesting to make such works available through federation, and maybe even store it in IPFS.
If you're looking for a #job and you've ever done #design work, a number of these are paid: http://opensourcedesign.net/jobs/
(and if you've ever done design work and you're looking to do some good, the gratis ones appear to be largely nonprofits and community organizations)
How many snowflakes do we need to create an avalanche?
OMG, my first check from my @Liberapay supporters! Thank you so much, you two anonymous helpers!
