Thoughts on (use of) terminology in different types of queer communities, I guess?

Anyway, this became much longer than intended, and I really, really should've slept for more then three hours by now. Partially because English is not my first language, so trying to word things exactly right is a bit of a challenge.

I'm anxious about what will meet me here tomorrow morning. I hope noone will bit my head off, bit the fact that I worry about that is exactly what worries me

Love all!

9/9, I guess?

I totally get the need to say fuck off to the majority, especially if you are downtrodden by them. I just wanted to think out loud about these questions.

What worries me is that even with my best intentions and trying my best to word my thoughts carefully, I'm still worried about getting a huge backlash for these late night thoughts of mine.

I'm worried that my worry means that real, true allies are pushed away

The most important thing has to be to rid the world of all terrible, negative discrimination, making peoples lives miserable, even seem not worth living, right?

I care more about how to fix things than whose fault they are. I don't mind stepping a bit carefully to not antagonize people unnecessarily. Still, I understand how that can sound very privileged. Maybe it is. But I'm not saying "be civil at all cost"! 8/X

I'm also genuinely curious about how the multitude of words, names and concepts affects not only those who use them to label themselves, but also how the rest of the world sees them (us?).

My main concern is to make the world better, if the language helps then I'm all for, but if it creates confusion and adds to the distance between the "normative" people and the "queers" (I guess?), then I'm bot so sure 7/X

As I said, I totally understand the need for specific labels for everyone, but especially for people in groups that have gone trough the terrible things I mention above.

Still I'm wondering how many labels we should create. Is it good for us to put ourselves in tiny boxes? Is it isolating, or does it rather make it easier to understand and talk with each other? I hope you see my Q's are real, not rhetorical 6/X

Are aromantics shunned, hated, wilfully ostracized, discriminated against in the workplace or justice system, or killed?

Not that I know of. Yet, in the aromantic spectrum there's aromantic, lithromantic (aka akoiromantic or apromantic), gray-romantic (aka grey-romantic, gray/grey-aromantic or Grayro/Greyro) and demiromantic. And then there's quoiromantic, aka WTFromantic.

And I'm just wondering... 5/X

I feel like I fit in the "grayromantic" category.

The concept of amatonormativity states that romanticism is the norm in society, just like hetoronormstivity stats that heterosexuality is the norm. All of culture and society is steeped in the idea that find a romantic partner is the highest, greatest goal of everyone. But it's not!

So aromantics might feel a bit foreign and isolated in society. But still... 4/X

It especially makes a lot of sense if you're a part of group that is being, and/or historically has been, harshly discriminated against, shunned, even killed. I don't want to take anything away from anyone, and as a cis, hetero, white dude I'm not trying to tell anyone what language to use about themselves or push my ideas on anyone.

But the categories goes beyond this. For example my category in all this: 3/X

I understand the need and usefulness of this multitude. But at the same time it also feels... I don't know, unproductive?

We all love to analyze ourselves and to find our kin and tribe, so I totally get it. Still, I'm worried that all the very granular categories are too much? That we are too keen to put ourselves in tiny, little boxes.

It does make a lot of sense, 2/X

TIL about queerplatonic relationships and the concept of amatonormativity aromantic.wikia.org/wiki/Queer

I find it very interesting! And I have a couple of thoughts:

I came to this article trough reading about aromanticism, and there where a lot of words and concepts there, which there are even more of in other parts of the gender/sexuality/romanticism-spectrum "universe". 1/X

From the folks who brought you the Panama Papers: the China Cables, a leaked "telegram" that is essentially a manual to running the massive Xinjiang Uyghur internment camps. The documents also reveal a system of automated mass surveillance.

"I will admit the most urgent reason for these concerns... I'm very concerned politically about the state of the world and what I see as increasing authoritarianism and flagrant violations of human rights. I have a lot of worry that if we don't normalize use of decentralized and secure private systems, we will lose the ability to host them, though we've never needed them more urgently."

BRB, getting myself a green laser!

Thus is an amazing video of the protestors in Chile bringing down a with friggin lasers!

But the problem is, how do you, or the crowd/mob distinguish between police drones (bad), reporting drones (might be good), and protestors drones (might be essential to the safety of the protestors themselves some day (see short stories by Cory Doctorow)?
