This is a really important time to push free and open source alternatives to ! I've considered using, but was afraid I had to use Patreon to get the network effect.

Please tell people about , post about it on Reddit (r/patreon), vote it up on Alternativeto, etc

Please boost! This kind of opportunity to topple a near monopoly with FLOSS does not come often!
Are there other FLOSS platforms?

Look at that. So proud. :D

But, yeah, really needs to work on new features, like reward tires and non-anonymous donations for those who want that!

Ok, I have no idea why this toot suddenly blew up again. The opportunity was back then, and is now long gone, as far as I know.

But let me use this opportunity to mention my own Liberapay account. Any and all support is highly appreciated!

@forteller I saw some grumbling here and there. Is there a summary for me to read about what's going on at Patreon?

@clacke @forteller

Changes to fees, Patreon raised them significantly on the patron side and creators aren't happy.

I was literally days away from setting up a #Patreon for something. (Was only held up by email troubles.) Now I am seriously considering alternatives, and @liberapay looks like the way to go.
@forteller @liberapay Liberapay really needs to support payments via and to Paypal to be comparable to patreon.
@forteller @liberapay For someone like me who is international withdrawing funds would take up to 14 days for the bank to process which frankly is not tenable.

@forteller @Liberapay
for projects you could consider also ... I don't know well how it is with international projects but the ethical base seems legit... #goteo #crowdfunding #libre #opensource

There is #SnowdriftCoop a « non-profit, #cooperative #platform for funding Free/Libre/Open (FLO) works. »

It's based on #Crowdmatching (hence the name « snowdrift »)

But, AFAIK, to this day it's only used to finance its own development, including an ad hoc #platform coded in #Haskell.

@forteller @Liberapay One thing missing from Liberapay (if I've understood right) is the option to give perks.

For example, Finnish authorities are very clear in that accepting donations without giving anything in exchange (i.e. pay to get a perk) is forbidden without a donations collecting permit issued by the police. Thus as it is now, using Liberapay in Finland is in the grey area and not a viable solution for someone looking for *stable* income.

There may be other shitty countries, too.

@Stoori What!? How is that possible to forbid such a thing? That's the craziest thing I've heard.

But yeah, that's an important feature missing. I think they're working on it, though. Check their github

@forteller @Liberapay Finnish creative people must always be very careful with how they craft their Patreon/Kickstarter/any crowdfunding texts. If done wrong, the police and tax authority are knocking on the door.

Even Wikimedia Suomi ry, a society promoting Wikipedia in Finland, has been targeted by police because of international Wikipedia's donation pleas — and they weren't even related to the donations campaign.

You can't make this shit up.

@forteller @Liberapay What I don't like about LiberaPay is that unlike Patreon, you can't make one-time payments. Not all people are ready to take the plunge and fully commit themselves to certain projects. Why not let the developers decide?
