Ħöţ đæɱn! @fobo

Good morning, check out this weird tree I found near my gym this morning. It must be a graft, right? octodon.social/media/wa_YHYj7l octodon.social/media/uaY86cAop

@fobo Or at a boundary between areas of soil with Ph differences.

@snoot Interesting! It is in a parking lot, so I wonder if there's weirdness in the soil. I noted that the tree to the south has all white flowers, while the two trees to the north have pink. They're all separated by about 40 feet.

@fobo That could be it. Construction not only disturbs the "native" soil but can involve bringing in fill from elsewhere. You could always get a couple of soil Ph testing kits from the garden store and know for sure. :) I imagine if the vegetation were the right types and dense enough, you'd be able to see the line where the boundary is sharpest.

@fobo i second the graft! very nice in any case!

@fobo Graft, or reverting to a parent perhaps. Hybrids and grafted trees will do this. If you wanted to check where the different branch originated, you’ll know which is which.
