@tobascodagama yeah, I understand completely. My coping mechanism is to look for silver linings and recognize that the world isn't coming down, but others might not respond in the same way. Also need to remember to recognize my own privilege influences my reactions.

@fobo I think more people need to stop and ask "why am I posting this?" I mean, it's totally understandable to see catastrophe all around us, because catastrophe IS all around us.

But is running around saying "OH MY GOD THIS IS A CATASTROPHE, LET ME COUNT THE WAYS IT COULD GET WORSE" really a healthy response? Is it doing anything good, either for you or anyone else?

@tobascodagama that's my sense too. I personally don't think that this is going to end our democracy, although it is a pretty big setback. McConnell was always going to nuke the filibuster if he didn't get his way.

OTOH I'm a white dude. My privilege protects me. I don't want to tell anyone how they should react.

@fobo I mean, I'm definitely on the side of "the filibuster was literally only useful for Republicans anyway" crowd, so yeah. Not sad to see it gone.

Disappointed that Schumer's play to block Gorsuch failed, but there was nothing surprising about this turn of events.
