@vahnj I'm not sure I understand (and I would like to!). How would content from serial abusers (who you obviously don't federate with) be *at all* visible to your users?
@vahnj Why are instances you federate with required to NOT federate with some other instances? If (boosted) toots from instances you don't federate with were invilible to you, and (boosted) toots from awoo were invisible to instances you don't federate with, would you still require instances you federate with, to not federate with particular bad instances? If so, why?
I'd like to be able to follow users who interact (but don't necessarily agree) with people I don't want to ever see.

.@cassolotl has a SECRET PROJECT, I'm very excited because it's secret even from me.
Me: can I have a timeline for the reveal of your secret project?
Cassian: I'm afraid not, as I'm reliant on someone else for part of it.
Me: Ahah! You have an accomplice! I bet it's [named person].
Cassian: I cannot reveal details of an ongoing investigation.
Me: I will interrogate them next.
Cassian: Noooooo I will tell her not to tell you.
Me: Naha! So it *is* [named person]!
@woozle this sounds like a response to a different conversation. Mistake?
@cassolotl @lifning@witches.town they just kept saying "would you like some more?" And i couldn't say no. It was a confusing but delicious experience.
We all have dreams of being successful, the definitions of successful can just be very different depending on who you ask , but for most people, even shunning the capitalist and ableist idea that we must all be "productive" is hard work
@woozle I'd be very interested to hear about the peer based reputation system you mentioned in another thread.
@setavulos gosh i know right. It gets so much use from me.
We need more tools built for regular folks. We need more tools that don't come with the baggage of learning to code, of dealing with the open source community.
We need more tools that help people do things, rather than just tools that help coders code.
A culture of zero-tolerance towards harassment and/or abuse is bound to come as a bit of a shock to some people.
We're so used to casual awfulness both online and in meatspace, it will be jarring to be somewhere where the rules are completely different.
Even if you agree with the rules!
I think it's interesting that a significant chunk of the #Fediverse is trying to make this change. It won't be easy.
