@spacekookie Surely there must be a better way of getting people to cut to the chase, or getting that "brief exchange" UX than arbitrarily limiting the number of characters.
If someone routinely posts books into toots, then probably it's time to unfollow them if you're not into that? But that's a social issue; it shouldn't be the software that regulates how long your toots are.

@fallerOfFalls I think it has more to do with UX and how it feels to use the platform than anything else. Its not about good software engineering. It's about making people cut to the chase in what they want to say and not paste half a book into a toot...
The fact that it's higher than 140 characters just means that it allows for more expression than birdsite which uses the same UX philosophy
