Apparently in many parts of the UK, homes that face each other at the rear are required to be built 21 metres apart, and you'll never guess the reason why this rule exists.
I did a tree safety course a little while ago, and the instructor told the class that the legally required clearance for trees overhanging a public right-of-way was determined by: the height of a gentleman carrying a child sitting on his shoulders, where the child is wearing a top hat.
@smbsy The gentleman baby, fantastic!
@fabriek this suggests that with an average step length of ~79cm, a standard 10 paces duel meant that the participants were still able to see each other's nipples. Significant? Perhaps.
@fabriek I am shocked that those two Edwardian men were not wearing undershirts!
@fabriek Fun fact of the day! 😁
(Well, not so fun obviously if you're living in such a house, but still)
