You are allowed to do stuff just because you want to.

Even if it uses up all your spoons/matches.

Even if it leaves your exhausted and broken the next day.

Even if you need to let other stuff slide a bit while you recover.

You are allowed to have fun, to go out, to take a day once in a while and do what you want with it.

Being #disabled, or #chronicallyill, or a #parent, etc doesn't mean you can't take time for you.

(I needed to hear this today, so I figured other folks might too.)

#fediverse sharing/gifting economy hastags

using hashtags to organize a bit of sharing economy.
You know those gifting places that people use in #facebook? At least in germany they are very popular

So how about we get something like this for the fediverse. It also helps to reduce economic pressure that is on all of us through sharing more of our resources solidarity

Idea is simple:
You have something free to share:
use #offer and #location

You need/want something:
use #request and #location

i've said this in other places but i always feel that it bears repeating:

"art style" should come out of your journey thru life. your experiences, your influences, your growth -- trying to "find" a style is a waste of time.

your art is an extension of YOU, don't force things.

When I get settled in to the new house, I'll pull out those books and take some pictures. I imagine many of them are on Archive.org already.

Here I am, walking Sunny on a Sunday morning, when someone pulls their SUV over next to me because his daughters saw Sunny from the car and wanted to say hello

and then he opened the boot

A waterfall on the moor. I like it because it shows how the moor is really a thick blanket of peat covering rocky hills.

@paul this! So very much this!

This is missing from these discussions all the time, perhaps because it's one of the less obvious (but more sinister) issues with the Microfacegoopple.

Everyone should at one point or another run Mozilla Lightbeam:

Hey, fediverse! Listen up. You'll like this, I promise.

Yesterday I was on Norwegian national radio, talking about how the "monopoly" of Facebook over the public discourse is dangerous and that politicians need to step in.

My sollution? Enforce federation!

That way the free market of social networks can work and the network effect will no longer be a "social DRM" locking people in.

Hey here's something about the Fediverse that some people don't take into account:

I see on "hacker" "news" that there is currently discussion about Scuttlebutt and the very clever opinion is that oh no, distributed social is worse than FB/Twitter because nothing is stopping BigScaryCorp from scooping up all your public posts.

Ignoring the fact that you can very easily have a locked account or even one that has public AND non-public posts... 1/

Have you ever had one of those moments where you're like lifting the flaps of a box of raisins and you realize that the entire cardboard box construction from concept to manufacturing is a product of the massive wave of commercializing and mass production of packaged food products aimed at post-ww2 housewives trying to single-handedly maintain middle to upperclass living standards without the historically necessary assistance of hired help?

Made myself an overall and it's... not horrible, so yeah, I'm ok with it. Still gotta tweek a few parts of it and hope it doesn't fall apart :P

Against the Grain - Early states like determinate grain crops, like wheat and rice, that are harvested all at once. They make thing easy for tax collectors. Indeterminate roots and tubers are especially hard to tax, unless you send your tax collectors out to dig them up, but even then, they are easy to hide in the ground and stay fresh for several years.

Just started a new book. Really good so far! The author starts by deconstructing the commonly taught 'progression' of pre-state to state power by taking a look at the newer and more complex picture of how cities and agriculture gave rise to oppression, state power, and the patriarchy.

I'll be trying out Nextcloud for the next month, really curious how usable it is, especially regarding synchronization with mobile devices and photo management.

I need more folks to follow with concurrent interests to mine. Anyone got suggestions? Fitness, outdoors stuff, art, reading, making, crafts, textiles, fibers, etc. #introductions

Temple of Heaven Gunpowder green tea has an amber liquid and tastes smokey and a bit grassy and minty. For gunpowder green tea water temp should be between 158-176F/70-80C. I brew it for 2 mins. If you want less caffeine, throw out the first brew but drink the second. This tea makes a good ice tea.

Temple of Heaven China Green Tea Special Gunpowder. $8/lb from my local Middle Eastern deli and grocery store. This loose leaf tea is made with tightly rolled 'pearls' of tea which was thought to looked like Gunpowder. A no nonsense everyday green tea. Blends well with peppermint mint to make Moroccan Mint.
