Found a new show. Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries. On Amazon Prime/Acorn. Plucky heroine. Dashing costumes. Cozy mystery with violence and tango.

#introductions Hi, I'm an astronomer and data scientist at the University of Washington. I work on statistical methods for astronomy, including black holes, asteroids and the sun. I also play harp and take pictures of things (mostly waterfalls and squirrels).

Decentralize your world.

There is of course #mastodon as federated social media.

There is good old #email as federated postbox (as long as not everyone uses GMail).

There is #peertube as a federated video platform.

There is #Riot / Matrix.org as federated group messaging.

There is #XMPP for federated 1on1 messaging.

And there is #nextcloud as federated cloud storage.

In theory most services are already federated. We only miss more users :)

I think mastodon needs a way to subscribe to or view the public feeds of other instances without necessarily having to create accounts on them. A lot of instances are billing themselves as topical communities, and I am interested in more than one of them, but I don't want to have to maintain a whole bunch of profiles

One of the things I love about The Dispossessed is that LeGuin doesn’t pretend that once anarchist society is established it’s all roses and freedom and happiness because she jumps right into all the contradictions of living in a society conceived of as a revolution and keeps on interrogating that. It’s great! Even the bits at the end that are heartbreaking but also familiar because, yeah, we’ve all dealt with that even in the spokescouncil model blah blah blah bleep bloop

I just found out about this new author! Rebecca Roanhorse. Her books aren't out yet but they sound killer. Trail of Lightning (The Sixth World) coming out at the end of June. And in two years, Between Earth and Sky. If you like sci fi by people of color and First Nations women it sounds like a must read, to me.

If you're pissed off at FB for collecting your data, just remember that Google is doing that as well.

Give DuckDuckGo a try.

I decided today I want to publish a book of in-universe short stories.

I've only written one.

I have another series book to write, and my non-series MS to finish revising.

I hope my family doesn't need to talk to me for the next three or four years.

So hard to find a new apartment when owning a cat. Now I understand why on moving day so many people just abandon cats.

Just for this reason, it should be illegal for landlords to discriminate based on pet ownership. It's cruel to the pets.

You know, I gotta say this.

It's pretty telling that white people or people that can pass as white keep trying to tell me that the overwhelming good of the internet is 'balanced' by... police brutality.

As a victim of police brutality, I'm telling you straight up they are full of shit.

There is no doubt police brutality is a major issue, but to use that as the point to minimize what the web is and has meant for marginalized peoples, reeks of gross entitlement.

Two days in a row of driving. Yesterday my sister's car and today my girlfriend's. That's enough for this month.
