@wohali unfortunately most of us now have to travel a great deal to get away from light pollution.
@evilscientistca I live right in downtown Toronto. I guess the "good news" is that I can go North and get dark pretty quickly as the population drops off...
@wohali Though the downside is you still have to look over Toronto's light dome. Calgary is also bad but I can go south without getting my feet wet 😉
@evilscientistca Depends how far north I go, surely? What about, say, Thunder Bay north?
Of course, south of here, even if it wasn't wet, there's Buffalo and Niagara Falls... :/
@wohali At our observatory Okotoks (pop ~30k) has a significant light dome. Northern Ontario would do wonderfully. Very little light up there outside of the major centres. Bit of a drive though.
@evilscientistca I'm a private pilot, my dream is to plan personal flights up there someday...
Too bad motion tracking isn't capable of letting me do observations directly from a Cessna.
@wohali Works for SOFIA 😉
@evilscientistca I'll take their budget!
@wohali If you go here:
www.lightpollutionmap.info
you can see where the dark is.
@evilscientistca thanks!
@evilscientistca Beautiful! Wish I lived somewhere darker at night.
