and these are what we would nowadays call case law: examples you're meant to extrapolate from. so you get the image of babylon full of people going hog wild breaking each other's walls with picks and hammers and the judge having to flip thru 10 stacks of clay tablets to see how many inches of water you should be thrown into for that
