my followers are probably sick of me talking about the other place already, but i genuinely do miss having the absolute worst, least intelligent, most self-absorbed people on the planet with the worst opinions imaginable at my disposal to demean and mock at on a daily basis

it might seem futile, but the thing about birdsight bad take havers is that also the exact group of people who will get mad at 'bonertron69' for doing spoonerisms of their name and will piss and cum themselves in rage when tricked into a bofa

the standard narrative about 'trolls' or 'media provocateurs' (the only difference is class background) is that engaging with them negatively is giving them what they want, but this narrative is one they, themselves, create. you can always tell behind the paper-thin layer of 'ah, i actually enjoy it when strangers insult and mock me,' they're frothing with rage

it's the same thing as neo-nazis constantly pushing the narrative deplatforming and counter-violence somehow actually help them. why would you take your opponents' claims about what benefits and what harms them seriously? liberals do, b/c they live in a fantasy world where everyone is magically compelled to 'play by the rules', and b/c they're not really opposed, but why would you?

this is also why a certain class of journalist constantly bemoans the 'lack of civility' of twitter in particular. twitter, in no wise by design β€” jack is just a flat-out neo-nazi, but, crucially, a colossally incompetent one β€” has affected a huge democratisation of communication, where now everyone can send a pic of thanos's big purple schlong to journalists or politicians. 'lack of civility' is when the poors get uppity

'civility' means a particular set of discourses, one they control, and one that excludes any real criticism of them or the contemporary capitalist order, and systematically prevents any concerns other than theirs from being articulated. the notion of civility allows them to frame any actual criticism as violence

@esvrld "you just make them martyrs which compels people like me to sympathise with them!" is how liberals usually respond to deplatforming/counterviolence against nazis. That's just a threat at that point.

🐦 πŸ‘οΈ

@Pyretta yea it's like 'i didn't support genocide before, but then i saw someone being somewhat impolite to a nazi, and hooboy, now i like it'. like have you considered maybe you were in favour of it all along?

@esvrld great toots fam
