Am I back?

@mbirth

I'm so sick and bored of and angry about G+ right now and almost ready to quit so I am searching for a new social media home...

@encarsia Haha, I'm not yet THAT sick of G+, but I'm also re-evaluating Diaspora* and Mastodon for a few days now. Diaspora doesn't have a nice Android client (at least I didn't find one). Still have to try the Mastodon apps. But Mastodon feels more like the Birdsite, not like a "proper" social network.

@mbirth Funny, I stopped using Diaspora some years ago and won't reactivate.

I'm still figuring out what my Mastodon persona could be like and how to make clever use of lists and hashtags or even run multiple accounts for different purposes/languages...

Now that the hype train passed through and my heavy G+ use is not that heavy anymore I've got some capacity left for playing around...

@mbirth There is a Mastodon Python package so if I don't find any people here who want to talk to me I may program some bots telling me about the weather and stuff...:D

@encarsia What's wrong with Diaspora? And then, there's also Hubzilla, which afaik can connect to GNU Social (i.e. Mastodon) *and* Diaspora and provides a lot more than just a "social network". Also, with Hubzilla you have one global identity across the whole system - which sounds like a great thing if a server goes down.

@mbirth There's nothing wrong with it. I just don't see additional benefits for me: I'm on G+ for some personal and tech related stuff (many FLOSS people there) and on the birdside for getting a fast laugh, connecting to some bike people and some general lurking.
