@emmykei Watching the episode, I kept feeling like it was hinting Mitsuru was gay, but didn't know what to call it because of the weird loveless thing in the world.
@electrotamitha rewatching Ikuno admonishing Mitsuru suggests they're both gay. She says that he's putting up a cool facade when he actually wants Hiro's attention, and that she's unlike him because she has the courage to pursue what she wants. Even later she tells him not to laugh at her for trying.
FRANXX is fascinating in that it has tools to explore different modes of intimacy w/o many preconceived notions of what that should be. But I don't think it'll follow through that potential ☹️
