@Annalee Yes, in a nutshell. Here's how it came about...

Founder hired a retiring cop for position of HR director. (!) Dude had no previous HR experience.

Dev made questionable work-attire choices while founder was trying to sell the company and potential buyers were visiting. (Pajama bottoms 😬)

Founder demanded a dress code, so ex-cop googled and copied the first one he found into the employee manual, so now we can't wear bandanas or flashy athletic shoes.

But at least it's mostly ignored.

Today is a great day to donate (or donate more) to our ever wonderful instance maintainer. It's a tough job and she deserves to get paid for it. let's send our spare $s to @CobaltVelvet

The trees are budding out.

It's warm enough to take a comfortable walk at lunchtime.

These are good things.

Other stupid, insulting things...

There's a dress code, which is apparently based on an anti-gang (i.e. racist) school dress code.

School dress code. WTF.

There's a padlock retrofitted to the refrigerator that contains soft drinks for clients. Consider for a second the optics of calling for the key to open the fridge to give a soda to a customer.

I think this is a result of the special affinity the previous owner had for local cops, which led to former cops being hired in HR and maintenance.

Great read, and this comment in a thread by her also hits home for me: twitter.com/sarahjeong/status/

On the bright side (I guess) after my profanity-laden rant, I feel a little better than I did before.

After gaining access, I took the liberty of exfiltrating supplies to strategic locations. 😤

I just lost my 💩 at work over janitorial supplies being kept under lock and key: stupid and frustrating.

Background: our maintenance guy is out with an injury, so as a group we're compensating by handling stuff on our own. But you can't just take out the trash and replace the bag without access to a special closet where the supplies are kept. You can't just replace the toilet paper, because of course you can't, someone might steal rolls of TP.

😠

This made made me wonder how long DFW has been known as the Metroplex. I knew it was called that in the 1980s when I moved to Texas the first time. Turns out it originated in 1972, so 45+ years.

I think the term is less used now? I'm seem to hear North Texas more often...

I wish I were as organized outside of the office as I manage to be at work. I wish I knew the reason for the difference.

The idea of the modern job application process is kind of disgusting, tbh.

It could be so much more humane.

This is a thing?! 😬

@applecandy @kensanata I use two heaping scoops using the bamboo scoop thingy. I haven't measured more closely than that.

@kensanata @applecandy A reason I felt compelled to take a picture was the nice foam.

And I don't use much water either -- 60-70 ml probably?
