Today I learned March 1 is the first day of "meteorologic spring".

@emdeesee That's an arbitrarily choosen date. Astronomic spring starts with equinox, what is more plausible. And often it's still wintrily in late March.
@stefan I, for one, welcome arbitrary Spring, for with it comes the end of arbitrary Winter. 🍃
