I'm looking at the Culture series (Iain M. Banks) and the Imperial Radch trilogy (Ann Leckie) for my next fiction reading material.

Want to make a case for one or the other?

@emdeesee I'm maybe halfway into the Imperial Radch trilogy. It's kind of slow burn, but in the end I quite enjoyed the world building and the end section of the first book was pretty exciting.

I picked up the second book awhile back and haven't had time to get very far yet

@tcql Cool, thanks. My friend recommended the series highly.

@emdeesee Culture ships have the best names. "Anticipation of a New Lover's Arrival, The" is my favourite. There's even a Wikipedia entry just for the ship names. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o

@emdeesee Haven't read the Banks, but Leckie's trilogy was an amazing exploration of a new intelligence in a well built world. And it had a good story to boot!

@KevSaund I'm leaning that way. Besides, I promised my friend.

@emdeesee and doing the socially correct thing is even a theme in the Radch series!

@emdeesee The audio version of Imperial Radch is excellent and fast.

@cheeseandglory Hmm, tempting.

While I was in grad school, I fell out of the habit of reading fiction with my eyes. When I had time to sit and read, there was something else I needed to read.

I'm trying to get back into the habit of reading, but still indulge in listening to short fiction. (Escape Pod and Podcastle are my friends.)

I do appreciate the recommendation; Imperial Radch is next in the queue, with Culture up next - James SA Corey sprinkled throughout.

@emdeesee Do you read sci-fi or fantasy? I have books you can check out. :) #shamelessselfpromotion

@emdeesee OMG read them both as fast as you possibly can! HURRY! I'm only jealous I can't read em for the first time sgain! :)
