I LOVE this book. One of the most thoughtful, unexpected, and beautifully written books I've read in years: https://www.amazon.com/Gnomon-novel-Nick-Harkaway/dp/1524732087
US asking for social media details from visa applicants is a terrible policy. Visa rules are usually reciprocal, which means US citizens will soon be expected to do the same, possibly even putting US citizens in danger as a result! https://t.co/mKmoRxzkKK
@aejolene Oh damn. That sounds... Expensive.
@jeffcliff you raise some fair points. I'm still skeptical of BitCoin for a variety of reasons, but I am interested in more just / humane financial systems, so open to experimentation.
Bitcoin is for money laundering drug and human trafficking profits. So, no thanks.
This strikes me as a much more interesting and humane innovation to the world of finance:

How it feels like talking about Mastodon on Reddit
Anyone who just recently joined Mastodon, post up an introduction about who you are, what you do, and what you like to talk about!
Hashtag it #Introductions or #Introduction ! We use hashtags a lot to follow ideas across multiple instances!
Check those Introduction hashtags to meet more new folks.
Here are two of my favorite hashtags:
- #Infosec
- #MastoArt
Other folks might have other suggestions!

Also, if you are in South Korea, Japan or Hawaii. I'm so sorry. I've been an activist against Trump since mid-2016 and I wish I knew what to do.
#DeleteFacebook is a good first step.
The next step is to #BlockFacebook.
Check this file for instructions on how to edit your hosts file and what to add to keep your browser from sending requests to Facebook.

Yes, I keep it open. As more people I know show up on it, I enjoy it more. But even then, I follow the Washington Post and Boing Boing, which basically just post the same thing as their Twitter stream.
So even useful just as a news-ticker, even if the social networking is still a bit sparse.
@forteller Looks like you discovered a space-time portal to 2004.
(Now tooted with correct spelling.)

I feel like Nix and Cambridge Analytica used the fictional SPECTRE org of James Bond movies as a model for real life implementation.
@starbreaker Deleted my FB account also. But it's also good to give friends and family information about more ethical alternatives.
FB will be truly doomed if I can get my mom and her friends to migrate here or to something like this: https://diasp.org/
I'm glad I deleted my account months ago. Delete yours today. Don't @ me if you're just gonna say "muh friends and family".

FFS: Trump congratulated Trump even though his staff's notes said (in all caps): "DO NOT CONGRATULATE"
Dear GOP: while you're at it, maybe also congratulate Putin on his crafty work with polonium and super toxic nerve agents.
