I believe that studying Toki Pona for just 2 weeks can help you become a better language learner.
This is an exercise that I have done twice, and it was well worth it both times.
To be clear, you will NOT become totally fluent in Toki Pona if you study for just two weeks, but you will reach a much higher level in two weeks of studying Toki Pona than in months of studying any other language. This is because Toki Pona is so simple. It only has approximately 120-125 words, and the grammar is about as easy to understand as a language can be. There is no verb conjugation, no noun declensions, no tense, no gender, no plurals, and no other unnecessarily complex aspects of language to hold you back.
Wether or not you want to actually learn the language and become part of an online community, I strongly believe that you will benefit from learning Toki Pona even if it's just for two weeks.

An idea to help onboarding on Mastodon : a website with curated list of mastonauts on given subjects/languages.
Also, we could have more local lists (list of people in my town, etc).

If you ever meet an angel anywhere but Heaven, be careful! Especially if the angel says something about a fall...
"Did it hurt when you fell from Heaven?"
"Considerably. Hitting water from that height is like hitting concrete. Thanks for getting me to shore," the angel said, graciously.
"No problem, I wasn't doing anything else... why did you fall, anyway?"
The angel grimaced, rubbing an injured wing, "Long story. Do you have all day?"
"I have nothing better to do," admitted the mermaid, "Sailors are harder to trick & lure these days."
"So. In the beginning..."

OK. So would you say that UBI is compatible with capitalism? Would you agree that not all forms of capitalism use the threat of starvation to extract labor?
@Jehu@anarchism.space
An attractive way to pay for the basic income would be a tax on the unimproved value of land.
Hillel Steiner would make both the tax and the UBI global.

Suppose we instituted a universal basic income, high enough to meet people's basic needs, along with the taxes needed to pay for it. Suppose we kept everything else the same, including private ownership of farms and factories, the existence of stock markets, etc.
The choice then would not be between wage labor and starvation. The choice would be between wage labor and relative (not absolute) poverty.
Would that still be capitalism? Would it be cool, in your book?
Also for Marx?
Learning German well enough to read German philosophy in the original is hard. It's not that hard to learn German well enough to be able to compare a translation to the original text and figure out what's a literal translation and where the translator used some judgment.
Did you know that there is an animated version of Schubert's Erlkönig?
