The internet is just a big pile of shit!

The top serps (search engine results) for just about any health question you can think of all lead to sites that exist solely to get your clicks. They utilize no medical professionals whatsoever. The content is either spun by algorithms or purely anecdotal.

This is NOT what the internet was supposed to be. Thanks a lot, Google...

@donblanco it's not just Google, and nor we're they the first. People have been manipulating search results with meta-tag abuse since the beginning. Google, Microsoft et al just made it easier and monetised it.

Feel free to blame them for the cash grab, but even without them it'd not be much different.

Even then, if not them, someone else would have done it.

@donblanco with apologies for the spelling there... I'm blaming autocorrect for that.

@shivvi Yeah, this is probably true, but they're an easy target for my ire :)

@donblanco point.

I just blame capitalism in general.

@donblanco
We need a federated del.icio.us/dmoz.org sort of thing for this.

@donblanco I feel like Yahoo could have staged a real comeback or at least built a niche to defend if it had gone back to a hierarchical, human-curated directory

@susannah yeah, it's not like they were gaining any ground/traction in the algo wars. I'd say there's a market for this. But you'd have to get it ranked on Google for people to be able to find it *headdesk*

@donblanco maybe we should all just stop using search engines anyway.
