Is it just me, or was the original iPod's text menu UI the pinnacle of computer UIs?
It was fast and lightweight, intuitive and accessible enough to be easy for my grandma, as discoverable as any GUI I've used, and was completely free of distractions and flashiness.
The touch wheel can stay dead, but the menus should work equally well with just about any input device. We should get back to building text menu UIs.

@MOKKA Hmmm I dig the second. I feel like the thinner boundary makes the foreground pop out a bit better. In the first one the thicker floor makes it seem like the floor isn't really a part of the foreground below it.
@Eramdam I don't know anything about it, but I know Nextcloud can do audio (amongst all the other stuff Nextcloud does). I suppose it'd probably be overkill unless you were gonna use it for other stuff too.

@sir I see. well your blog post about it (and the one called "Actually, you CAN do it") inspired me to work through the Build Yourself a Linux project, and I've learned a ton from it, so I just wanted to say thanks very much for writing those posts!
