Is it just me, or was the original iPod's text menu UI the pinnacle of computer UIs?
It was fast and lightweight, intuitive and accessible enough to be easy for my grandma, as discoverable as any GUI I've used, and was completely free of distractions and flashiness.
The touch wheel can stay dead, but the menus should work equally well with just about any input device. We should get back to building text menu UIs.
