@rrix thank you *so much* for recommending Eliza the other day. I bought it this afternoon and have been playing it all evening. *so* good!

I wrote about my experience at Disneyland, and how my avoidance of proprietary software highlighted the inequities that are being designed into technology in all corners of our society.

I never get tired of how Google refers to turning off some of its data collection features as "pausing" them. Not turning them off or deactivating them, just "(paused)".

O m f g!

Drop everything and read this overview by Cass Sunstein about what I’d like to call 2.0

They did MusicLab but instead of songs, they asked *lightly* political questions (“should companies be taxed where they’re headquartered”, “should bitcoin be banned” etc.). In the worlds where participants could see previous votes, Repubs vs Democrats flip flopped!

WOW 👏!! Via himself.

This requires us to talk about a different kind of privacy, one that we haven’t needed to give a name to before. For the purposes of this essay, I’ll call it ‘ambient privacy’—the understanding that there is value in having our everyday interactions with one another remain outside the reach of monitoring, and that the small details of our daily lives should pass by unremembered. What we do at home, work, church, school, or in our leisure time does not belong in a permanent record. Not every conversation needs to be a deposition.

Hi @enkiv2 ! Do you know of any hypertext projects that do links/formatting as an overlay, separate from content, like you describe in items 3 and 4 in "Guidelines for future hypertext systems"?

I've been messing around, trying to come up with a simple format for such a thing, but I'm unhappy with what I've come up with so far, and am looking for inspiration. Thanks!

Hiya @cwebber - I'm hoping maybe you can help me with a Racket question that I'm having trouble finding an answer to:

Does racket/gui use each respective platforms' native gui tools? (I found that it uses GTK on "Unix", but I'm not sure about Windows and OSX.) If not, how well does it do with regards to accessibility?

How did patreon manage to make a page that is mostly a wordpress front page with a nicer template run like absolute ass?

Is it folding proteins in the background?

Humans, in one form or another, have been on Earth for maybe 2.5 million years. The Andromeda galaxy is 2.5 million light years away.

Under dark, clear skies, you can see the Andromeda galaxy with your own two eyes. If you do, you’ll be looking at light which has been travelling through space for roughly as long as our genus has existed on this planet.
