Not that I think in a million years that any kind of user strike activity would get FB, G or T to change anything significant. Because their entire business model from the ground up is based on selling ads.
Mostly I'm keen to drive people to user-supported social media, like Mastodon, Dreamwidth, Wordpress, even NeoCities.org (which is so cool).
All I am saying here isis, if you want a non-toxic user experience: make sure you're the customer, not the product / worker.
Why yes, I hadn't done it right, thanks to the interface on namecheap not being obvious as to how to commit the changes.
Now all is working though.
DNS Nameserver changes take ages to propagate! It's a nice example of speed being part of usability: I might not have done it right, but I have a 48 hour window to guess/second-guess.
Telling people to switch to Linux is perceived as brutal as telling a person owning a Peugeot to get a Ford
Anyway if you want to save the world, join a union (like Précaires Solidaires) to help people to sleep under a roof. You're welcome there if you need help too.
It's legitimate to generalise from few samples: you are not a statistician*. It's legitimate to say "those may not be representative".
It's OK to need proof. It's OK to believe without: you are not a courtroom.
It's good to forgive people. It's good to hold people to account.
Who generalises what, and who demands proof from whom, and who forgives whom, is a good way to cut through bullshit and dog whistles to get to what people really think.

Mastodon users, new and old:
You can add a caption, or alt-text, to images you toot!
These captions make your toots more accessible, by giving people who can't see the image a description of what's in the image.
Just hover over the image over you attach it and type a description in the spot that says "Describe for the visually impaired" before you hit the TOOT! button.
Please also encourage Mastodon app authors to add caption functionality. And please boost. Thanks!

CloudFormation is terrible and AWS has no idea how to name things. #LongDay
In case you're wondering, #MeFites are members of this site:
A bunch of us joined Mastodon last weekend after the twitter boycot. Unlike most other MeFites who joined, I've never had a twitter account.
Tried eating locusts for the first time today. Pretty good tbh, will wait to see if it becomes economic for regular diet.
Some of my #interests
#datascience is something I know about, but
#bigdata is my job, working with
#hadoop . I lived in
#Russia for many years before returning to
#Scotland where I'm finding my feet, having
#beer and trying to improve my health by
#running 5k and 10k races.
To help some of the newcomers make connections: name 5-7 things that interest you but aren't in your profile, as tags so they are searchable. Then boost this post or repeat its instructions so others know to do the same.
This picture is more terrifying than any terror attack. https://mastodon.social/media/Oab1Ov3sVToY2o6t-iA
The fucking Terrorist-Authoritarian complex continues. Manchester seems to be doing a good job of standing strong. You don't bomb kids.
He was totes happy about fascist defeat in France though! 😁
Spent some of the night talking to a Norwegian dude, older gentleman, who seemed pretty happy with the idea of Scotland as part of a Scandic alliance. Not necessarily EU though.
I could be down with that. EU is great, but it's not the only way to be part of a European alliance. The important thing is to work together internationally and for the good of the population nationally.
The rest is details.
I need to work because I need european monetary trading units to acquire various goods and services
Remember in the 90s, when teens were more tech savvy than adults, and everyone assumed that the savviest would just keep getting younger? Now it's 2017, and the people who were teens in the 90s are the most tech savvy generation and probably will be until they die.
Kids don't grow up with computers any more, they grow up with iPhones. If it's possible to learn to code on an iPhone, it's despite Apple's best efforts.
Yay! Death to fascism!
Looks like the EU is inheriting the mantle of the "Free World". Hope they/we* can make a better and more honest go of it. Although being a free country is a complicated business nowadays.
* Scotland still has a chance
