Girls Who Code is pretty much garbage TBH. "I don't want to make sweeping generalizations. One of the things I think I have found that is uniquely female is our empathy." Please stop tying my so-called "feminine traits" to my ability to code.
My bias is also very heavily against the concept that apps are going to create a systematic change, as opposed to actual direct action....
@dedbees Uniquely female empathy. These are some real trash people.
@rotatingskull just tired of these vague constant "differences" in my work versus men's. I have the same flipping ability, my work and focus is no different. After Damore's trash, this is unhelpful IMO.
@dedbees I work in a field of affective labor, and when I hear someone talk about uniquely female empathy I realize they're a bigot and they make it difficult or impossible for men to work in fields of affective labor. I just leave the room when someone says something like that and make sure to never talk to them again unless absolutely necessary.
@rotatingskull @dedbees also very skeptical of GWC as a whole. I stopped attending my local one when it started becoming a way of pipelining women into expensive bootcamps that no one seemed to get anything out of.
@dedbees It's a cult!

It has nothing to do with capacity for empathy. I think it has more to do with the fact that Western upper middle class women have typically been expected to devote their efforts and freetime to charity work. It's just a continuation of a cultural expectation of women.
