Hi Mastodon. My husband and I are heavily considering getting a dog. I have many concerns (baby on the way, money, etc) but ACTUALLY my biggest concern is Fivel (one of our two cats). 😅 I don’t know how he will react to a dog. He can get aggressive towards strangers and I worry about him hurting a dog.
Any advise on how we could prepare our cats or get them used to a dog? Or maybe somehow test-run how they respond to a dog before we get one?
I wonder how far from a CostCo receipt I could wander before they noticed? Different widths? Paper colors? Cardboard? Can I scrawl "I CAN LEAVE NOW" in crayon on a banana peel and hand that to them? #SecurityTheater
When you leave CostCo you have to present your receipt and an employee carefully looks it over and looks in your basket and then highlights it -- you can now leave the store.
I accidentally did a security audit. I handed them the wrong receipt (from Menards). They stared at it thoughtfully, looked in my basket, highlighted it, let me leave.
So, ya. They're not actually looking at the receipt at all. #l33thaX0rz

I'm a big fan of the relative safety of the vetting process of Kiva (for example) https://www.kiva.org/lender/jhannah but their model isn't viable for all situations of financial need.

Foo Inc. does not pivot. Foo Inc. instead re-implements the old stuff via an adapter that is layered over the old stuff so that you get all the unreliability of the new untested stuff plus all of the constraints that made you want to change the old stuff. 10 months into sick old doge adventure, suffering mild depression, off and on. I've dealt with losses before but this daily grind long goodbye is new to me.
It's hard. And it's "only" a dog. I don't know how human caretakers do this.
My parents are in their 70s. I can't wrap my head around how that's going to work some decade soon.
Life. Yeesh.

Extremely well done, but feeling manipulated by Ear Hustle podcast. It's constantly triggering my empathy for the inmates, which is good.
My complaint is that the structure of the story telling is often empathy triggering first (this person has lost these privileges, a crushing blow) but mentions much later (or doesn't at all) what the inmate did that made their lives worse.
Give me their actions and their consequences at the same time so I can process honestly.
