I mourn like the next man, but while I think he was an earnest guy and in many ways a thought pioneer, I also think his fundamentally anarchist idea of Internet-as-elsewhere should be allowed to rest with him, if nothing else for its role in fostering the right-wing, millenarian interpretation that has given us and the Singularity idiocy

As it happens, provincialism is now the mark of anglo-american , while in Europe a much more problematic view of the data society is currently thriving. Alternative, long-term-profitable business models will be the next step.
