Anybody has hints for a solid desktop-based, systemd-free OS?

@dataKnightmare from a former gentoo user: re-evaluate your hatred of systemd maybe

@cybermeow hmmmm rather not, it's a dangerous single point of failure, and I'm noticing too many freezes as of lately

@dataKnightmare So what about the kernel then?

systemd alternatives arent less monolithic then the default systemd behaviour.

have fun experimenting with the alts. openrc is fun, dont expect them to be somehow enlightening or more safe.

inits is the same, man.

@dataKnightmare Devuan has been suggested to me for this case

@tqft yes, it's also a friend's work. tried it a year ago in a VM, and I'm getting more and more favourable feedbacks on it

@dataKnightmare I probably can't help you. systemd was one of the reasons I switched to OpenBSD. It has packages for the major DEs, though.

@starbreaker e, freeBSD is an alternative. will think about it too, thanks!

TrueOS (previously PC-BSD) is highly rated in certain circles. I don't use it myself but it's worth a try:

@dataKnightmare Distrowatch has a special "Not systemd" search filter which could help you :-) Some of the listed distro only have an "alternative version" without systemd, but most of them are really systemd-free
