After Twitter killed the public timeline, users' experience became pretty much limited to the language of the filter bubble they live in.
I understand that some of us make no use of other languages in the federated TL, but complaining that people on Mastodon write in their own language is useless.
If you want to have an English-only feed, don't ask for filters in the federated TL – rather, follow people you find interesting and build the TL you like. It's also beneficial to your instance.
tooties, awooligans, mastonauts, witches, slimesters
let's all agree that we are Mastonautes right ? I just read a French article referring to us as Tootos, sounds stupid...
@deegee so are you gonna report it or...?
Logged out of the birdcage on my desktop for the first time in years. Deleted it from my phone. Thought about contacting people to let them know I was moving over here, but I don't like being that final about -- I just don't want to look at it anymore.
a well-read man will at once begin to yawn with boredom when one speaks to him of a new “good book,” because he imagines a sort of composite of all the good books that he has read, whereas a good book is something special, something unforeseeable, and is made up not of the sum of all previous masterpieces but of something which the most thorough assimilation would not enable him to discover.
(Proust judging us all)
Did someone die?
Oh no it's just Wikipedia being Wikipedia.
I tried the tool for finding which of my birb follows are also here, and the results were extremely disappointing (n=1)
Try it here: https://mastodon-bridge.herokuapp.com
i now have more "followers" on mastodon than i ever did on twitter, but followers kind of cease to be so crucial, because the local and fed timelines are chill places to be and you don't need followers to participate in them
I'm so used to lurking on the birdsite, not wanting to add shit to the heap, that thinking of something intelligent and friendly to say here is genuinely difficult
@jangles it's nice to see everything instead of the 'top posts' the birdsite aggregates for you too! :)
