I'm digging this time lapse photo of birds I ran across. Looks like a tape tornado. Others here: http://timewheel.net/amazing-chronophotographs-capture-patterns-birds-flight/
If you like #mastodon you would have loved the internet in the late 90s.
Here's your one and only chance to take that back. No, not only on twitter.
Don't centralize your life. Don't rely on a single corporation helping them accumulate too much power. Like Facebook or GMail.
Diversify and try to control your own data.
Thema Garten

Ernstgemeinte sachdienliche Hinweise gerne an mich. Merci beaucoup.
Hmm. Right-wingers are upset with science now because left-wingers accept scientific evidence.
Good night to you all for now, a nice glass of red wine and a nice ebook are waiting offline for me.
*Internet of Shit*
You thought the /Juicero/ was the most ridiculous /Internet of Shit/ thingy? Think again, after you've watched this video about the Wi-Fi enabled wine bottle:
"The pressing ethical questions in machine learning are not about machines becoming self-aware and taking over the world, but about how people can exploit other people, or through carelessness introduce immoral behavior into automated systems."
http://idlewords.com/talks/superintelligence.htm
It's the text version of Maciej Ceglowski's speech "Superintelligence: The Idea That Eats Smart People", shared by @dredmorbius (https://mammouth.cafe/users/dredmorbius/updates/748).
Tip for newcomers (4):
You can search for individual posts with a URL in order to bring them into your stream so that you can boost and favorite them.
Why is this necessary? Let's say that you're looking at someone's profile page and see something interesting. You just click on the time stamp to bring up that unique URL, copy it and past it into search. Works like a charm (for me at least)
@NSXG I made a translation bot for mstdn! I hope it will help people converse in different languages. @translator ja

This video made me so cheerful. The triumph of three little balls!
And now I desperately want to build an adventure course! :)
That's a cool display of connected Mastodon instances

If someone knows which software this was done with, I'd appreciate a pointer.

@cynix @stefanieschulte It's worth paying for pinboard.in just to help support him.
@cynix @stefanieschulte Indeed! We had the pleasure of hosting Maciej at WebCamp Zagreb 2016, and he held one of the best talks I've had the opportunity to see live! :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kErHiET5YPw
I think his consistent criticism of Silicon Valley & the tech community is spot-on and much needed.
@ebel @cynix Totally agree! This is one of his classics:
"The Website Obesity Crisis"
http://idlewords.com/talks/website_obesity.htm
Even if I'm not a gamer, I really like his analogy of the "Minecraft" web ("an open world with simple pieces that obey simple rules") versus the "Call of Duty" web ("an exquisitely produced, kind-of-but-not-really-participatory guided experience (...)").
