Criticism is welcome, but remember to give constructive criticism, which includes consideration of how your criticism will affect the other person emotionally. The golden rule applies: how would you feel if you read the message was directed at you? It's hard for someone to constructively make use of criticism if receiving it is an emotional drain.

Hi! You may most likely know me as co-editor of ActivityPub, the decentralized social network message which is more-than-likely how you're actually receiving this message! w3.org/TR/activitypub/

Other things you may want to know:

- I'm a user freedom activist (free software, free culture)
- I post a lot of leftie politics stuff
- Expect lots of tech posts around lisp, decentralized network stuff, obscure-ish programming history

Reality is an insecure computing substrate.

Happy to see Blender looking at adopting PeerTube, the federated, peer to peer, ActivityPub-using video platform (especially because YouTube weirdly started blocking Blender's stuff in some countries) twitter.com/blender_org/status

BTW, PeerTube is currently running a crowdfunding campaign. They could use your help! kisskissbankbank.com/en/projec

朝からアハハハ!って変な笑いが出た

Looks like outlook.com is re-allowing me to send email. Thank you @nightpool for showing me the appropriate form!

Wading through some old files, ran into a writeup I had of The Vagina Monologues, which a friend was directing a production of in college.

I wondered... at that time I wasn't very aware of transgender issues, and I didn't hear it talked much about. Especially given the name, I wondered how the original author Eve Ensler felt about things (I hoped "not TERFy")

Seems like she's on the right side of things: time.com/3672912/eve-ensler-va

Found a cd full of old IMs from when I was... much younger than today. An actual thing I said over IM to my ex-girlfriend:

> it's just running two copies of one application into memory
> Winblows doesn't allow you to do that

I actually said Winblows

*criiiiinnnnnngeeee*

Peertube, an ActivityPub based alternative to YouTube, is running a crowdfunding campaign kisskissbankbank.com/en/projec

Comes at an important time, with YouTube blocking legitimate videos on (incorrect) copyright grounds, such as MIT's OpenCourseWare videos and the Blender Foundation's videos torrentfreak.com/youtubes-pira

Hey #FreeSotfware lovers!

We need you to help us grow #PeerTube into the YouTube alternative it can become.

Spread the word about #JoinPeertube joinpeertube.org, and fund the development of important features on frama.link/joinpeertube

We already know that automated content filters don't work. They put absolute power over content in the hands of a system that is opaque and broken.

A couple of days ago YouTube took down all of the Blender Foundation's videos from the Blender Foundation's channel due to a copyright claim by... the Blender Foundation.

The BF is an official YT partner, but days later they still cannot get a straight answer from YT about what is going on:

I have sent e-mails to the MEPs. Have you?
juliareda.eu/2018/06/saveyouri

Every e-mail counts. I know this, because years ago I was an activist fighting similar odds on the ground: rys.io/en/70

So send your e-mails, call your MEPs. Block Article 11 and Article 13 of the Copyright Directive.

This is very important:
juliareda.eu/2018/06/saveyouri

"Article 13 of the Copyright Directive will force internet platforms (social networks, video sites, image hosts, etc.) to install upload filters to monitor all user uploads for copyrighted content, including in images – and thus block most memes, which are usually based on copyrighted images.

(...)

It will come down to every single vote. (...) The NGO EDRi has made a list of key swing votes: edri.org/files/Copyright_JURI_

This will affect #Fediverse.
