@cwebber @Claire it's this bit that really makes it art:

> EDIT: On second thought, I will not [explain it] and just leave it at that. It seems the internet is fed on outrage and must interpret every intent as malicious.

...added after editing the comment to remove the thinly veiled threat of deportation.

It was hard for me to tell how serious the Audacity stuff was

but the original version of this comment (see edit history) is a threat of deportation and insinuation that if they don't comply with a takedown you hope they'll be imprisoned, killed, or tortured by their country of origin github.com/Xmader/musescore-do

and so yeah okay thanks for making that clear

(also thx for the link @Claire)

Horray! Finally got the release blogpost for @spritelyproject Goblins v0.8 out the door! spritelyproject.org/news/gobli

Improvements to interactions in the network protocol, coroutine support, integration with Racket's IO system, and more!

WHEW! Now to go build cool things *on top of it*!

We are happy to announce the release of Goblins v0.8! spritelyproject.org/news/gobli

Now implementing handoffs in the CapTP network protocol, opt-in (but safe, non-interfering) per-actor coroutine support, integration with Racket's IO system, and more!

Just a quick render test of a pseudo-vaporwave aesthetic: dustycloud.org/tmp/vaporwave-q

Not very fleshed out beyond just a few materials/compositor hacks in Blender but yeah, might expand on something using that style in the future

We get the same sandwiches every week from the local coffee shop for @mlemweb and I's "check in brunch" and always start out the call saying "my spouse and I are both vegetarian so we're substituting meat for veggie sausages on both sandwiches" and then say it again for both sandwiches because they've messed up the order so many times.

But I gotta say, substituting out meat sausage for *bacon* and only on *one* of the sandwiches is even more irritating than usual.

It also shows that goblins' transactionality cost is roughly 25% on performance. Honestly that's not so bad, and in mot cases, quite worth it.

Show thread

Also for games etc you can drop down to a lower-level "actormap". With transactionality, 750k actor updates per second are possible. Disabling transactionality, *1 million* actor updates per second.

That means that for games where performance is key, Goblins can be quite fast.

Added a new benchmark gitlab.com/spritely/goblins/-/

While actor calls within a turn are faster, I'm at about 80k toplevel messages handled per second (turns) in Goblins' vat event loop, with transactionality on.

Disabling transactionality is faster, but removes anti-furious measures.

(... I might have tried too hard at that last joke.)

I predict that in 50 years or so, the way we use plastics today—from clothing to cosmetics to packaging—will be viewed the same way we now think of DDT or freon

WAIT IT'S FINE!

It turns out I had cowpoke-coder'ed it in the docs live, and the versions in the docs (as opposed to in the file I had tested from) were just fine!

The docs are fine despite me being *totally reckless*! Horray!

Oh no, I made a mistake in the docs and discovered it after release :(

I had a working example of how to use CapTP with Bob talking to Alice, then realized that was the reverse of the "traditional" direction, reversed it and... broke it without realizing it.

Time for 0.8.1...?

Just pushed the v0.8 release of @spritelyproject Goblins! gitlab.com/spritely/goblins/-/

Still need to make the release blogpost but yay!

In the meanwhile, see the changelog: gitlab.com/spritely/goblins/-/

(And yes I did get it out the door during Hack & Craft!)
