@strypey @trwnh @deadsuperhero @notclacke @schmittlauch Decentralized Identifiers. Look up various Rebooting Web of Trust papers and the w3c spec. DIDs aren't human readable, but you'll have a unique identifier for yourself for life. For the human readability, add petnames. https://github.com/cwebber/rebooting-the-web-of-trust-spring2018/blob/petnames/draft-documents/making-dids-invisible-with-petnames.md
@strypey @trwnh @deadsuperhero @notclacke @schmittlauch This is what DIDs are trying to solve
@kellerfuchs I suppose it's mean, but no damage is done other than a brief scare :)
You a US citizen? Don't feel like the state of your country is something to celebrate today? If you can, donate to causes that can make it better. (@mlemweb and I donated to Tammy Baldwin's campaign and the ACLU.)
@elomatreb well, global name collision problems are an eternal thing....
@alice (note that I said "why not also" rather than "why not", but @elomatreb probably gave the right answer to that https://social.elomatreb.eu/notice/182184 )
@alice no doubt
@elomatreb that's true, and also ICE is brutal sounding and the slogan "abolish ice" is easy to say, remember, repeat... which is probably a more effective chant, then
@kellerfuchs for best effect run by an unknowing user in a buffer full of lots of contents they really care about
"abolish ice" is great but I'm not sure why not also "abolish the border patrol"
(iirc the border patrol is the one running the concentration camps?)
THIS IS IMPORTANT!
We need people to call their MEPs. Most importantly:
- Romanian S&D:
http://www.europarl.europa.eu/meps/en/search.html?country=RO&politicalGroup=4280
- Romanian EPP:
http://www.europarl.europa.eu/meps/en/search.html?country=RO&politicalGroup=4269
- British S&D:
http://www.europarl.europa.eu/meps/en/search.html?country=GB&politicalGroup=4280
- British ECR:
http://www.europarl.europa.eu/meps/en/search.html?country=GB&politicalGroup=4271
- Italian S&D:
http://www.europarl.europa.eu/meps/en/search.html?country=IT&politicalGroup=4280
- Polish EPP:
http://www.europarl.europa.eu/meps/en/search.html?country=PL&politicalGroup=4269
Please report back (in a private message, preferably) what they say! This would help us a LOT!
I'm in Strasbourg, lobbying hard. Updates soon, but was able to talk to Axel Voss, the main guy behind the current (bad) versions of #Art11 and #Art13. Doing my best to #SaveYourInternet.
Lessons from today:
- Pro-Art11/Art13 MEPs do not know how copyright law works (no surprises there, the copyright law is a mess!)
- Wikimedia Commons is a very good example of a service that could suffer very much.
- As during #ACTA, MEPs are not entirely against sitting down and discussing the issues.
