@cwebber I'm torn on net neutrality myself. Comcast & Verizon should be killed & sold for parts, not regulated. All their spectrum should be taken back and converted to Open Spectrum, and all their right of ways should be taken back and handed over to municipalities.

@cwebber It will never happen as long as we keep things limping along instead of allowing them to collapse. Americans need to feel pain before they will act.

@cwebber I once went looking for a quote in The Moon is a Harsh Mistress saying things need to get worse before they will get better, but it turns out Heinlein devoted an entire chapter to the idea.

@seanl It's a pretty common phrase but I think often things just get worse and then don't get better... the internet has been getting worse for quite a while when it comes to monopolies.

Unfortunately what's been happening more than anything is people just get used to the monopoly nature and defend it as the status quo.

@cwebber Right; monopolies are treated as a given, so people don't bother to look for all the ways government & other artificial incentive structures promote them. They just give government even more power thinking the government will keep the monopolies in check, when it's the monopolies who run the government in the first place.

We look to the FCC to keep Comcast, Verizon, and AT&T in check, but they are best buds.
