I plan on probing the minds of people at Rebooting Web of Trust about how we could realistically bring nomadic identity (eg the instance you're on going down is no longer a big fear) to ActivityPub systems that are *already deployed* like Mastodon via DIDs (assuming implementors are interested in doing so) without giving up the network we have.
I suspect that's *at least* a year out from something we can reasonably expect to be deployable. Worth exploring though right?
And before @mike gets mad at me again I know Zot already provides nomadic identity! However based on recent convos I think even Mike agrees there is space to improve in the space of key management and recovery, which are two things that the DID people are working hard on.
Oh yeah and link to the DID spec here https://w3c-ccg.github.io/did-spec/
And also, again, to the paper I wrote exploring this idea https://gitlab.com/dustyweb/talks/blob/master/activitypub/rwot/even_more_distributed_activitypub.org
great to hear! :-)
