@craigmaloney When I worked as a receptionist at the HQ for a local chain of liquor stores, I heard about boxed wines that were not only decent but quite good. I cannot, however, verify this from experience.
@craigmaloney There are quite good boxed wines. The wine in the bag-in-a-box does not come into contact with air after opening, so it doesn't spoil as fast as an opened bottle. I also find boxed wines to be very practical for parties. Everybody can just get a refill as they like, no faffing about with the corkscrew.
@craigmaloney there are some that are considered at least good utility wine among the reasonably well-off drunks of my acquaintance. the class signifiers are definitely not what they once were.
@craigmaloney I bought what I thought was a decent white boxed for a while until I realised it gave me a headache, similar to most cheap wines. But it was from a decent wine producer so my guess is that they put their cheaper stuff in to boxes, knowing that they are considered to be 'value' wine. It's a guess though. Bloody annoying.
