Craig Maloney ☕ ✅ @craigmaloney

So many bright people I know are either out of work or are dissatisfied with their current employment. Wish there was some way I could figure out how to weave all of this talent into something where everyone could be happy and fulfilled. There has to be a way; some sort of cosmic pattern we can use to make things into a quilt of awesome or something.

@craigmaloney Help me track down Bradley Kuhn & Karen Sandler so we could do a sit-down sidebar discussion near but not within OLF on this?

@alpacaherder Sadly I can't justify making it to OLF this year. :-l

@craigmaloney belkinsa is trying to get me there. A different division at work has some new civil payroll structures proposed for workforce.

@alpacaherder I'm scared to even apply for 18F because of the recklessness of this administration.

@craigmaloney Look up: Certified Professional Employer Organization.  New thing called "employee leasing" another IRS division cooked up.
@craigmaloney The new thing about it is that we're giving it some sort of preferential tax treatment.  BMF squad has had press releases out.

@craigmaloney If we had universal basic income I am sure a lot of us could work together toward some really impressive stuff

@zigg Don't get me started on this. Told my dad about Universal Basic Income and single-payer healthcare being our salvation. Not sure he bought it.

@craigmaloney There's a generation that probably will never get it tbh

@craigmaloney If we were magical ponies, we'd have a full-color trans stamp with an icon of our exact talent and we wouldn't have to waste all this time and effort.

@USBhump I'm more of the mindset at putting these resources we have into making life better for all of us rather than for a handful of people who just happen to have gotten the money first.

@sajith @clacke Wow, I was not aware of this. Very cool to see this sort of thing. Wonder how hard it would be to replicate.

@clacke @craigmaloney I started reading Wingolog in 2003 or so, back when Advogato used to be a thing...

@clacke @craigmaloney I've forgotten that Slashdot is still a thing! 😳

@sajith @clacke I was a huge fan of Slashdot and even worked for Geeknet. Now that CmdrTaco and Hemos are no longer there the Slashdot I knew is moribund. I stopped reading it when they had Slashdot BI (Which was for Business Intelligence and not what it should have meant).

@craigmaloney @clacke I too was a fan. Used to save Slashdot pages for later reading back when I was on dialup!

I've seen Unknown Lamer lamenting the state of Slashdot in IRC. I guess this is yet another case of an ineptly run corporation coming along and ruining things for everyone.

@clacke @craigmaloney The c2 wiki always confused me. I never figured out how to actually use the wisdom shared therein in m day-to-day programming labor.

@clacke @craigmaloney Well, not being able to make use of c2 wiki is entirely my own fault. I know I'm missing *something* whenever I visit c2 wiki: self-discipline, perhaps.

@clacke @craigmaloney I just found the redesigned c2 wiki at c2.fed.wiki.org/. This way of navigation makes things a lot better for me.

"I think the UI of the fedwiki is still pretty confusing. c2 made a lot of sense to me."

Me too. I like the concept of fedwiki (federation of wiki content), but I still don't like the UI. The main reason I haven't set up a node is that I don't want to host something I barely understand (Node.js) on the public Internet.
