Her spokesperson actually said, “It’s a jacket. There was no hidden message. After today’s important visit to Texas, I hope the media isn’t going to choose to focus on her wardrobe.”

No, there was no hidden message. That's true. Hidden would mean it was something symbolic, such as wearing a brick ball printed jacket. This was in plain fucking sight.

It absolutely infuriates me, even in more trivial circumstances, when people try to say that fashion doesn't mean anything. Fashion is a language. It is a form of communicating without words, and communicating an always personal message, meaning from the person wearing it. And that includes when people don't think about what they're wearing-- it communicates a lack of thoughtfulness, if nothing else.

But to say that a fucking former fashion model and obvious designer clothes horse didn't "mean anything" by it not only stretches the imagination to its breaking point, but if she *didn't* mean anything by it, then she has only exhibited how utterly, completely disinterested she actually is in the entire issue. Ironically, by wearing the jacket without thinking, she only proved the message scrawled across the back.

This isn't a woman who only has a handful of jackets to throw on. She's an extremely wealthy woman with plans for a fashion line, a daughter in law that owns a fashion line, and someone who very thoughtfully dresses under normal circumstances (see her Jackie O nod inauguration suit-- that was NOT a serendipitous accident). She picked that one, and if she chose it based on color or comfort, then she WAS actually so thoughtless that she proves the point.
