@mlcdf @colon_three you can either do that and effectively get a rolling release or put in current the current testing name- stretch, with that choice you ultimately end up on stable.

You can also use Debian backports to pull testing packages into stable. Or even use pinning to use multiple releases at once.

I appreciate the benefits you get from layering services but invariably it seems to make the learning curve awful. I've looked at Riot and I couldn't even begin to tell you what the heck it has to do with Matrix. Same with Gnu Social and Mastadon. I've got accounts and several Mastadon and Gnu Social servers - Mainly because frequently when I try to follow someone and it just fails. Then I try somewhere else and it works.
