Normalize quitting things. It could be school, work, relationships, hobbies, or pretty much anything.

Quitting is often thought of as inherently negative; nobody wants to be called a "quitter". But there are plenty of situations where not only is it reasonable, it's the *best* course of action.

You can drop out college or switch majors when you don't care about the thing you're studying. You can end a relationship when it becomes toxic. You can stop playing a game that you don't enjoy.

I know I've mentioned this before but I'll never forget when I was a kid and I heard about "the unemployment rate" or something for the first time and I tried to get my mom to explain it to me

If these people want to help, why don't we let them? They're poor, so is there not enough stuff for them? We could let them work and they can make stuff for themselves! Or if there already is enough stuff, we could just let everyone else work a little less and then these people can work too. Or just give them the stuff, if it's there already, and they wouldn't have to work because we don't need them to. Why don't we just do that, mommy?

And I honestly don't remember a shred of her answer because I'm 90% sure it was a dodge or otherwise just unsatisfying

Turns out, I was right! Unemployment *doesn't* make sense!

You're not better than anyone if you went to college.

You're also not better than anyone if you didn't.

But either way, all of us are better than cops and landlords.

"pregnant teens are more likely to be poor, be on welfare, not go to college, struggle with mental health problems, etc." hmmm crazy thought what if those aren't actually due to the effects of having a baby when ur young but how you're treated for it

Does anyone have any recommendations for good books on Canadian history? I wanna learn more about it!

there’s a certain attitude that people in my generation have with service workers of β€œoh i’m introverted and anxious and awkward so i’ll leave them alone” that’s really heartbreaking to me. offer people glasses of water, food, and conversation. tip well and treat every human being with respect. not only will it make their day better, but practicing little interactions like that is healthier than avoiding them and building them up in your mind.

Neofeud is a game about my experiences growing up in Hawaii's ghetto, being a social worker & STEM teacher for poor, homeless, refugees, mostly non-white kids in slums of Hawaii the tour buses avoid, while living out of a van. 100% of sales go to putting a roof over my kids' head (we're getting kicked out of our house at the end of the month)
