Sincere question: does anyone write a grocery list of items to get, or has the world transitioned to storing their lists on a phone app developed by a supermarket's IT/web team?

@cosullivan We still write shopping lists and todos on post-its using fountain pens and the like. πŸ–‹οΈ

@cosullivan Now I'm wondering about semiotics and prayer and emoji, haha. But yes, I'm going to say yes without knowing exactly what you meant. πŸ˜ƒ πŸ™‡

@kensanata Maybe you would show me some emoticons Europeans or Swiss citizens would recognize as 'approval+solidarity'

@cosullivan I use a lot of πŸ‘ and sometimes I also use πŸ–– (live long and prosper) or 🀘 (rocks) or even ✊ (revolution), depending on nerd factor, coolness, or political inclinations, haha. But generally speaking, thumbs up would be "approval". Not sure about solidarity, though. Interesting question. Maybe also a sign of how emojis are shaping our language and how we speak about emotions. πŸ˜ƒ

Based on this discussion I'm starting to think πŸ–– might be the most culturally neutral way to say "you're awesome" in Emoji..
The 🀘 thing has some small meaning of fox-news-someone-think-of-the-children-satanism by the way, which naturally makes it 2x as great.

@LydiaConwell @cathal @cosullivan Yes, but only if used behind a person’s head; when raising said hand and shaking them vigorously, it stands for Satan and thus for Heavy Metal and rebellion against good taste and bourgeois society, I think. But: β€œa variety of meanings and uses in various cultures.”
