@zacts @nadir Man I barely realize what it was like to actually correspond with friends via email. That's sad.

@chosafine@instance.business Yeah, I don't want to make assumptions but I hear it all the time around here, from all ethnic backgrounds. We're a ton more rural where I am though so maybe that's why.

@chosafine@instance.business Hm, where are you from in the world? I live in the Southern US and it's a pretty common thing here among both whites and POC.

@Ulfra_Wolfe "May I call you Elphie?" "It's a little... perky."

I really want the Fitbit Versa, even though I'm bitter at them for absorbing Pebble. Pebble was the perfect "smartwatch" for me, not as full of the clutter as so many smartwatches are. It looks like Fitbit is taking its cues now from the Pebble design, which is good because the Ionic was hideous. Now if they'll just take the best parts of Pebble's software, and that'd be an instant buy for me.

@zacts @nadir I'd completely eliminate it if I could, but like you, it's the only way to stay in touch with certain people.

@zacts @nadir I need to do that as well. The lure of social media has been keeping me from reading the way I used to. I used to be able to finish a book a day; now, I'm lucky if I finish one in a month simply because I don't make time. I have so many books I want to read and social media is just so vacuous, I really just need to apply myself.

@zacts @nadir But needed for comparative literature, for sure. I only wanted to go into it because my passion is for Western religious literature, and learning Hebrew/Greek would've been right in that wheelhouse. Maybe someday. Any other multi-cultural authors on your list?

@zacts @nadir I'm all for Pride and Prejudice, absolutely hate Wuthering Heights. Good on you for the Greek; I was going to go for a degree in Comp Lit until I was told I'd have to learn 4 different languages. I didn't have enough time on my plate for that.

@Ulfra_Wolfe Glinda! Is it true... you were her FRIEND?

@chosafine@instance.business As an extremely white and gay person I had no idea we were trying to reclaim words like that...

@zacts @nadir Hijacking to ask what does "quality literature" mean to you?

@kingu_platypus_gidora I think FB will be less affected by users deleting, and more by investigations by the FTC, etc.

@starbreaker I think it'd be a very steep curve for me. My OSes up to this point have been Mac, Windows, iPhone, and Android. I've toyed with Linux, but even though I like a certain level of control I feel like you have to control Linux too much just to get it to work. I wouldn't even know where to start with BSD.

@starbreaker @Purism I'd love to try out the Librem 5 phone.

There seem to be quite a few people here asking for money...

Subscribing to BookBub means I now have a ton of ebooks that I will never read, and only have them because they were free. But do I go through and cull the ones I don't think I'll ever read, or just leave them? Part of me hates to delete a book, the other part of me absolutely hates clutter.

@generica Yes, Messenger is tied to my phone # only at this point. Unfortunately it's the only way for me to keep in touch with certain family, and no way would they move to Signal.

Like many users, i downloaded my archive and found that FB has been logging all of my text conversations and phone calls since 2015. I could easily delete Facebook but I need to keep Messenger, which would seem to defeat the point of deleting Facebook.
