#introduction Hello! I am a #sysadmin for #linux systems and interested in #privacy #federation and #horizontalism (in an organizational sense).
I am sure many other things will come out as I go.
Time for #introductions I guess!
I'm Jules. I spend most of my day with kids - I have a toddler and a 2nd grader, plus I do some tutoring on the side.
My main hobbies and interests are knitting, music (especially oboe), reading, and museums.
I'll post about those things, and my family (including the cats), but I'll also be posting about political topics. No one else is going to save us, so we need to save each other. Iโll share what Iโm doing to help.
Today, a first-grade student of mine waited in line behind several other students just to say, "Chris, my mom loves my dad so much she poops with the door open."
Yes, parents: your children's teachers know the most intimate and bizarre details of your personal lives.
Mood du moment #ClimateChange
When will #climatechange push my current coffee habit to extinction?
"Let's play a game, to help some of the newcomers make connections: name 5-7 things that interest you but aren't in your profile, as tags so they are searchable. Then boost this post or repeat its instructions so others know to do the same."

5. A school exclusively for grown-ups whose children have better things to do than sit at a desk all day.
4. A school exclusively for children whose grown-ups don't care about college admissions until they're in their tweens or teens.
3. Progressive school with low or no tuition and strong family involvement. Project-based curriculum that actively pulls in community expertise.
2. Small school with mixed-age classrooms. Shoes optional. Kids help prep and clean up lunch.
Hypothetical elementary schools where I would love to teach:
1. A school in the woods outside of a smallish city. Outdoor campus. Place-based curriculum and frequent field trips.
Hi new masto-comrades! My name is Adriana, and I'm an non-binary, pan, anarchist (of some sort), and spoonie.
I'm currently studying environmental science, and I talk about all sorts of stuff behind the various appropriate CWs.
Say hi, have some tea, and let's burn down this empire together shall we? ๐ด ๐ ๐ณ๏ธโ๐
I feel like plastic grocery bags are a punishment for something.
I try so hard to avoid receiving them but I still accumulate so many.
Hi I'm a twenty-something student majoring in Data Science for some stupid reason.
โค๏ธ I like 90s aesthetics and beige colored cases, wonky rasterizers, neat hacks and Quake.
โ ๏ธ I think the current big tech companies are a threat to our freedoms and so is predatory capitalism.
๐พ I suppose there's more to life than books and computers but it doesn't often feel that way.

(Now picturing a grown-up walking in on their child doing a pretend read-aloud of a medical bill or credit card offer to a class of stuffed animals.)
I have my first graders' work sprawled out across the kitchen table right now as I prepare notes for upcoming parent-teacher conferences.
If any of my students saw me doing this, it would surely become part of how they play school. I wonder what they would use in place of real student work. Paper with scribbles on it? Junk mail? Their grown-ups' work or files?
Then, I will know I've made it.
My neighborhood laundromat is busier than I would expect before 9 a.m. on a frigid Saturday morning.
My goal in life is to one day be one of the older ladies who make it to the laundromat early enough on Saturdays to have their clothes in the dryer by 8.
