Good point number 2 about Mastodon: You're not talking to a fucking wall. People actually reply

At some point, won't the federated timeline just be a blur?

How long until Mastodon isn't a constant stream of people talking about Mastodon? Hopefully by succeeding and moving on and not by sinking into obscurity!

Yes I'm part of the problem as a noob user all doe eyed and innocent here.

I don't understand people who see "blocking" as wrong and enforcing an echo chamber. Well, ok, turn off your spam filters. Scammers and viagra salespeople deserve your attention, too. Free speech.

Federated social media does have usability concerns, and yes there is a learning curve. But this kind of knee-jerk negativity is disappointing! (Counterpoint: Eh, whatever, we don't need Mastodon to be Twitter-scale anyway.) mashable.com/2017/04/05/mastod

you ever have those days when you want to just throw caution to the wind quit your old life and become a database administrator

Did not see this coming:

I'm kind of glad. I never liked Unity anyway, and hopefully they will focus all their time on GNOME3 development now. Maybe we'll see Mir get dropped in favor of Wayland as well?

Yes, you can relate.

One of the huge reasons twitter will always have a loyal user base is because of all the celebrity personalities. This leads me to two more questions:

Who are some interesting people to follow on Mastodon that already have some good content?

Are there any "celebrities" or well known persons using Mastodon?

So... is setting up an instance that hosts nothing but bots/data services for people to follow kosher? If I did this, I'd default all statuses to unlisted so they don't clutter up the fed TL. Those would still show up in followers' Home feeds, right?

Help me out here: we still use the diskette as the glyph to mean 'save' in a number of programs, but diskettes have basically gone the way of the dodo. What will replace it? Ideas?
