@nolan I had problems with nokogiri when setting up my local Jekyll, I think in the end I got the nokogiri install to work using :
gem install nokogiri -- --use-system-libraries
@AverageMarcus we've loved it - glorious beaches that are mostly empty, friendly local businesses, steam trains, fish and chips by the sea :)
It's been an unexpectedly brilliant getaway for us.
(We did opt out of sea-swimming... but it is April in the U.K.!)
We popped out on Wednesday for a day at the beach ... loving Swanage, at this rate we may never go back ;)

If you use one account for everything, you may not be seeing the full breadth of Mastodon. Get an account on an art instance, watch the cool art fly by the local timeline. Get an account on a French instance, bone up on your high school French. Make an instance for your coworkers, talk shop.

@kornel @nolan I've also been seeing people warning about very unpleasant materials... I suppose very careful whitelisting of accounts and even instances (I need to learn how the federated timeline works here) can provide some protection... but it certainly puts a lots more weight on the community/admins reducing this, or maybe like minded communities working together for increased collective safety
