@starbreaker I feel like you might have missed all the points people against removing follower counts made... (or maybe didn't see them). They had nothing to do with egos or dick waving and everything to do with protecting people against dog piling.
@sydneyfalk Sorry, by dog piling I meant replying @ someone who has a million followers, you not realizing, and then having their follower army dog pile on top of you. I think we're talking about the same thing (maybe I used the wrong term).
It's okay -- I didn't realize that's what that was! I'm pushing forty and very unfamiliar with a lot of the terminology of these newfangled social media whatsidoosits. ^_^
(But cutesy phrasing aside, yeah, I didn't know that's what the term was. I assumed it was about people following the herd by following people with high follow counts, but I supposed that'd be lemming, uh, ing? Lemminging? I dunno. This is why I'm an old lady, LOL.)
@brwarner @starbreaker
However, the converse issue -- not knowing how loudly one is broadcasting -- can also lead to harassment issues of a different stripe.
I think at this point I'm in camp that follower counts have uses that aren't going to be worth losing for the people who need them. Dogpiling may have to be dealt with otherwise. :\
