What programming language community have you found to be the most welcoming and why?
Have you noticed some communities that had a reputation for inclusiveness were not as welcoming as others?
@luisroca I found this a very strange question since I have never, ever participated in a prgramming language community. I just learned what I needed for each project, maybe googled up or read references for additional details.
Not even like I've been railroaded out. Just....never did that.
@luisroca IME, not in the slightest.
It may very well be excellent ways to network and get projects, etc., though. I may not be the best example, but that's my experience.
@luisroca I would not feel foolish at all! Don't forget, I have a number of other factors, among them being female and deaf, that contribute to this as well. And it occurs to me the networking that is happening is likely invaluable.
@browneyedgirl I consider myself outgoing but it can be a tiring process. It could be the online aspect of it but the in-person meetups have had a similar effect. I just wondered if it was tied to certain communities.
I've seen the blog posts and comments about one community being /this/ another community being /that/... It all seems to be just luck of the draw to me depending on time and who is attracted to languages uses
I can only imagine those with uglier obstacles trying to find a place
@browneyedgirl I feel a little foolish now having spent so much time looking for communities to fit with... talk about a need for acceptance 😖
